UPDATE: Charlie Rangel has apologized for his comments to Luke Russert. In a press conference on Friday, Rangel said that “I had a very good conversation with Luke Russert [this morning] and apologized for the way I treated him on television.”
Luke Russert challenged Charlie Rangel over the news that the New York Congressman will face a trial over alleged ethics violations.
When Russert asked Rangel, who has served in Congress since 1971 and is the fourth-most senior congressional representative, if he feared losing his job over the issue, Rangel got angry.
"What are you talking about?" Rangel asked Russert. "You just trying to make copy? How do you think I got my job? I was elected. How do you think I lose it?"
Russert told Rangel he could lose his job two ways, either by being voted out by his constituents or by being voted out by his colleagues over the ethics violations.
"What station are you from?" Rangel asked Russert, who promptly replied NBC/MSNBC. "While you're young, I guess you do need to make a name for yourself, but basically you know it's a dumb question...it doesn't really sound like NBC asking these dumb questions, but it just shows what has really happened to a channel that did have some respect."
